Chrome browsers slow in loading OWA 2010 behind TMG

We have noticed that Chrome browsers have significant delay in loading websites through a reverse proxy server like TMG. Issue: There is a new feature in Chrome called SSL False Start which is supposed to speed up your SSL connections. Unfortunately, the end result against sites published by TMG is they don’t ever load unless the user manually refreshes the page a 2nd time. Keep in mind this applies to any SSL website published by TMG and accessed by a user with Chrome, not just Lync Web App or Outlook Web App. There is also an issue open on Google Code about this problem, http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=67617, but there is no server-side fix. At this time the only solution is to modify the Google Chrome shortcut to disable the SSL False Start feature. Just modify your shortcut to be “chrome.exe -disable-ssl-false-start” and all is well. User cannot send or reply when using OWA

If a user is unable to send or reply when using OWA from home (browser stops responding), make sure they are using the IE icon created by Windows, and not an icon created by an installation program from their ISP (i.e. Earthlink).

If that is not the cause of their issue, you can determine if it’s due to an add-in (toolbars, etc.) by using the No Add-ons mode of IE. This can be found by clicking Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (No Add-ons), or by running iexplore.exe -extoff from the run line.

More info on troubleshooting add-ons can be found here:http://blogs.msdn.com/b/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

How to control OWA web beacon filtering for IE8 users

How to Control Web Beacon and HTML Form Filtering for Outlook Web Access

Web beacon is a file object, such as a transparent graphic or an image that is put on a Web site or in an e-mail message.

Web beacons are typically used together with HTML cookies to monitor user behavior on a Web site or to validate a recipient’s e-mail address when an e-mail message that contains a Web beacon is opened.

Web beacons and HTML forms can also contain harmful code and can be used to circumvent e-mail filters.
